A desert residence in Arizona shaped by heat, horizon, and the geometry of shadow.
Set within the Sonoran Desert, this project is composed of thick rammed-earth walls arranged around shaded courtyards. The architecture responds directly to climate — minimizing openings to the west while opening generously toward distant mountain ranges.
Water features cool the air through evaporative effect, while shaded loggias extend living spaces outward.
The design prioritizes natural light, with strategically placed skylights and light wells that animate the interior throughout the day.
Sonoran Mirage does not resist the desert; it calibrates itself to it.
Walls provide thermal stability and visual permanence.
Interior courtyards create microclimates for comfort.
Every opening is positioned with precision against the sun path.
